The Turtle and the Tribal Woman

Years ago New Tribes Mission use to show a 16 mm. movie clip of a woman cooking a turtle on a fire. The turtle was alive and on its back being cooked in its own shell. The turtle’s legs and head were moving about as you can imagine. As you get a picture of this in your mind you’re probably thinking (as most do), “oh, the poor turtle!” The man showing the movie then challenged his audience with this. . .”Most of you are thinking of the poor turtle in this movie clip. But, how many of you are thinking about the woman who is going to a Christless eternity?” Wow! What poignant words.

So often during this process I can get distracted and look upon myself. Whenever I (Julie) hear this story, I’m once again encouraged to take my eyes off of self and onto Christ, Who shed His blood so that woman wouldn’t have to go to a Christless eternity…as long as she has someone to tell her the message of God’s love and grace.
